Nose Surgery, also known as Rhinoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that provides an enhanced appearance of the nose. In addition, the procedure may improve breathing difficulty. Nasal surgery is requested by young adults, women and men to improve genetic defects, consequences of traumatic injury, or to revise the results of an earlier procedure, including:

The Incision

Nasal surgery involves incisions that may be placed completely inside the nostrils (closed procedure), or along the tissue strip that separates the nostrils or in select folds of the nose (open procedure). The type of incision depends upon the goal of the patient and the type of technique that will be used in the procedure- open or closed.

Rhinoplasty Techniques

Nasal surgery may involve reducing or increasing the size of the nose by treating structures that are found under the tissue of the nose. The underlying structures such as cartilage may be reshaped to remove lumps and improve asymmetry. Underlying structures may need cartilage from other areas of the body such as the ears to augment the nose. A deviated septum may be improved by straightening the cartilage, not only altering the profile of the nose but improving breathing as well.

Nose Surgery Recovery

Nasal surgery recovery is optimized by resting and following directions provided by Dr. Hardesty and Dr. Bennett. Within a week, bruising and swelling subsides to show the refined appearance of the nose. At this time, the results from nasal surgery are apparent. This time period is usually several days at which time you can return to normal daily activities. Often over time, the nasal shape continues to improve.
