Make your dreams a reality with a customized breast enhancement: “Imagine the New You!”
Some patients choose to enhance the size of their breasts via breast augmentation to bring better balance to their figures, while others may wish to return to their pre-pregnancy size, reverse the signs of aging, and improve the breast shape with a breast augmentation. When the breast sags, breast augmentation is often paired with a breast lift, this is known as “masto-aug.” Whatever your reason for selecting a breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Hardesty, an experienced board-certified Plastic Surgeon, and his team at Imagine Plastic Surgery located in Riverside, California can help you not only “Imagine the Difference” but make it a reality!
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast enhancement, breast implant surgery, and even a “boob job” can provide, a beautiful, feminine silhouette and fullness of the breasts. Dr. Hardesty will examine the anatomy of the breast tissue, skin quality, and the extent of the desired enlargement in order to determine the appropriate incision location. There are three types of incisions that may be used including:
- Inframammary Incision, at the breast crease
- Periareolar Incision, at the nipple line.
- Transaxillary Incision, under the armpit
Dr. Hardesty will examine the amount and quality of glandular tissue and fat in the breasts to help determine the best location for the breast implants. Location choices include:
- Sub-muscular breast implant placement which is a location under the pectoral muscle.
- Sub-mammary / sub glandular breast implant placement which is the location above the pectoral muscle and under the breast
- Biplanar / dual plane the majority of the breast implant is covered by the pectoralis muscle and only a small amount of the lower implant is not.
- When desired implants can be placed higher on the chest wall resulting in a rounder and resultant upper pole fullness. Also, if the implant is placed lower on the chest wall, a more “teardrop” breast shape can be achieved.

Dr. Hardesty will provide a complete list of pre-operative and post-operative instructions to follow after the procedure. Most women return to normal daily activities within a few days following the surgery. Usually, by 6 weeks, there are no restrictions on returning to full exercise. There are recovery aids such as a compression garment, a non-narcotic “pain pump” (constant infusion of local anesthetic), and muscle relaxant medication available to assist in the recovery process.
If you are like most women that have undergone augmentation, you will be pleased with the results of the procedure immediately following surgery and for many years to come.
Due to the fact that breast augmentation is seen as a cosmetic surgery most health insurance companies do not cover them unless it is a part of a mastectomy for breast cancer and reconstruction. It is important to check with your insurance provider to know what is covered in detail, our team at Imagine Plastic Surgery can go over the costs with you as well.
Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer for how long the new breast implants can last. However, they are guaranteed for life and if there is a malfunction or deflation the breast manufactures will replace the implant without charge (free of charge) and also provide limited compensation to cover the removal and replacement.
Breast augmentation procedures are very invasive and require time to heal well. Most patients can resume most daily activities immediately and perform progressive exercises and after 6 weeks after surgery, there are no restrictions. Thus, many patients will need to wait six weeks until they can resume heavy lifting and perform strenuous activity.
