Customize Your Treatment: Microdermabrasion Options

At a consultation appointment with Dr. Hardesty’s Aestheticians who will carefully examine your skin and listen to your concerns in order to choose the right treatment option for you. They will systematically examine your skin, categorize the skin type, elasticity, and hydration during the skin analysis, as well as any imperfections that concern you. This way Dr. Hardesty’s Aestheticians can choose which microdermabrasion technique will be used.

The Techniques Used

There are two main types of microdermabrasion. Dr. Hardesty’s Aesthetician’s will choose which one will benefit you the most based on your skin type and concerns. Microdermabrasion may also be paired with a light chemical peel to increase the results.

  • Crystal Microdermabrasion: Dr. Hardesty’s Aestheticians use a handpiece that emits crystals onto the surface of the skin. The crystals then start a gentle abrasion or polishing process. After this, the crystals along with the dead skin cells are suctioned off with the handpiece.
  • Diamond-tip Microdermabrasion: Dr. Hardesty’s Aestheticians can also use a diamond-tipped handpiece which gentle abrades and exfoliates the skin. Then the dead skin cells are suctioned away. This type of microdermabrasion is good for people with sensitive skin.

Am I a Good Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for this procedure if you have sun damage, acne scars, fine lines, or clogged pores. To ensure that this treatment will benefit you, Dr. Hardesty’s Aesthetician will complete a skin evaluation as well as take a look into your medical history. Most patients, regardless of skin color or type, can benefit from this procedure, but if you have more severe skin concerns like Rosacea or hyperpigmentation then Dr. Hardesty may recommend a different treatment option.

Microdermabrasion Recovery

During the consultation appointment, Dr. Hardesty’s Aesthesticians will provide you with complete instructions to prepare for the treatment as well as caring for your skin afterward. There is little or no downtime associated with this treatment. Dr. Hardesty’s Aestheticians may recommend some medical prescribed medications, moisturizers and creams to use to help the skin heal and maintain it’s healthy look. Some redness or swelling may occur but should subside quickly.
